Club History
Our Story
In 1994 Birgit Blizzard taught a clogging class for Fort Saskatchewan Community Services. That first class had 13 students. The group has grown over the years. There are now about 50 cloggers. Classes are held 2 days a week. There are 3 levels of clogging taught. The group does demos at local seniors residences and festivals and makes an appearance in the town's Canada Day parade. Cloggers range in age from 10-80. Many start to get some exercise and stay because they find clogging is also very social. The club has 4 party nights with the wind-up being a big potluck, demo and dance affair. Guests are always welcome to join us.
Our Instructors
Birgit started clogging in 1992 in Sarnia, Ontario. She was introduced to clogging by a friend that discovered clogging while on a weekend getaway with her husband in Detroit, Michigan. There was a clogging convention at the hotel and by the end of the weekend she had taken the "Clogging from Scratch" class and had bought shoes and taps. From the moment Birgit saw her give a demo of a few basics and rocking chairs she knew she would love it. After a year of beginner classes Birgit and family moved to Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. At the time there was only one clogging group and it was in Edmonton. In 1994 Birgit decided to try teaching her own classes. And as they say
"The rest is History!"
Donna joined the Blizzard Cloggers in 1997. A year later she taught the group while Birgit took time off to enjoy a new addition to her family. Donna now teaches the intermediate level dancers each week as well as cues on party nights and teaches classes when Birgit is unavailable. At present there are a few more trying their hand at teaching and cueing.
